Evansville beat the top seed and host East Carolina 6-5 in the championship game of the Greenville Regional June 3.
Kip Fougerousse was honored as the regional’s Most Outstanding Player.
The Wes Carroll-coached Purple Aces then went 1-2 against No. 1 national seed at the best-of-three Knoxville Super Regional June 7-9 and closed out the 2024 baseball season.
Indianapolis went 0-2 at the NCAA Division II World Series in Cary, N.C., closing out a memorable campaign for the Al Ready-coached Greyhounds.
Tampa won its ninth national title.
Of the state’s 38 college baseball programs, 15 won 30 or more games — NCAA D-I’s Indiana State (44-15), Evansville (39-26), Ball State (35-23-1), Purdue (33-24) and Indiana (33-26-1), NCAA D-II’s Indianapolis (41-21), NCAA D-III’s Hanover (31-17) and NAIA’s Oakland City (45-18), Taylor (42-16), Saint Francis (40-19), Indiana University Southeast (37-20), Indiana Wesleyan (34-15), Indiana University-Kokomo (32-21), Indiana Tech (32-24) and Huntington (30-21).
It was announced Saturday that Mitch Hannahs has stepped down as head coach at Indiana State. He has landed at the University of South Florida.
